The Shearwater Bell and an old diary are all that remain of a disastrous shipwreck that occurred in 1828. Rona is staying with her grandmother at Shearwater, where she meets Wiri. Wiri has found an old diary written by an ancestor of both Rona and himself. Together, Rona and Wiri set out to find the ship's bell and the fabulous treasure which had started the mutiny on the wrecked ship.
