Summary: The first of the three sections focuses on Nanny Peka, a teacher at a Maori, girls' college who uses a stand of native bush at the school to teach a group of students about rongoa Maori (traditional Maori healing). The second section profiles Mother Aubert, a nineteenth century nun who based many of her famous remedies on traditional Maori herbalism. The third section explores rongoa Maori in a contemporary, commercial context - that of Tairawhiti Pharmaceuticals. This East Coast company has been extracting and promoting manuka oil since 1992.
